SJM Theodore Racing Ready for Eighth Macau GP Title Campaign
(Macau, 17 November 2015) – Today the Grand Lisboa, Macau hosted the official media address for Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) and Theodore Racing ahead of the 62nd Macau Grand Prix.
SJM increased its support of Theodore Racing last year to become the team’s title sponsor and this successful partnership continues for 2015. This year also welcomes ICBC (Macau) as the promotion partner of the team.
Attending the media activity were Dr. Ambrose So, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, Ms. Angela Leong, Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of SJM, Mr. Teddy Yip Jr., Team Principal of SJM Theodore Racing, and the team’s three drivers Felix Rosenqvist, Jake Dennis and Lance Stroll.
Dr. Ambrose So, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, said, “We are proud to extend our title sponsorship of Theodore Racing, reflecting our continuing support to the Macau Grand Prix as well as our long and sentimental relationship with Theodore Racing and its founder Mr. Teddy Yip, and now with his son Teddy Jr.
“This year SJM is also the title sponsor of the SJM Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup, so our sponsorships cover the first FIA GT World Cup, and the most successful racing team in the history of the Macau Grand Prix. We believe that our involvement with this world famous sports event brings substantial benefits for Macau to establish itself as a world centre of tourism and leisure.”
Managing Director of SJM, Ms. Angela Leong, added, “We are thrilled to join hands with Theodore Racing to bring in an all-star driver line-up to this year’s Macau Grand Prix. Moreover, we have arranged a series of activities, including a charity visit and a tour of the Theodore garage for the university students, to bring the team closer to the community, spreading love and care. We wish the team another year of spectacular success, scoring its eighth victory in Macau.”
Hoping for a record eighth Macau Grand Prix victory for his iconic Theodore Racing team, Mr. Teddy Yip Jr. commented “I’m extremely pleased to stand here before you today and announce a continued challenge for Macau Grand Prix honours in partnership with our title sponsor, our partners, our friends, SJM. I am also delighted to welcome our promotion partner, ICBC (Macau), to the team this year along with new partner Gulf.
“Last year, we arrived in Macau as Champions following our successful return to racing in Macau in 2013 with Alex Lynn. This year, we return to Macau driven to capture a record eighth title with the perfect three-car line-up to help us achieve this success.”
Reigning Macau and European FIA Formula 3 Champion Felix Rosenqvist remarked “I’ve raced at the Macau Grand Prix for a number of years and I’m extremely pleased to return this year as an SJM Theodore Racing by Prema driver, a privilege I am hugely thankful for. This year I return as the reigning Champion as well as the European F3 Champion so I have all the tools at my disposal to become a back-to-back winner, a feat that has only been achieved once before.”
British Macau newcomer, Jake Dennis spoke excitedly about his debut “I’m hugely excited to be in Macau this year for what will be my first attempt at taking the Grand Prix honours. Having arrived yesterday, the city and race-track look incredible and the people are very accommodating. I had three pole-positions and two race victories at a street circuit earlier this year so I am feeling confident going into the weekend. It feels great to be part of the SJM Theodore Racing team.”
Fellow Macau Grand Prix debutant and driver of the #3 SJM Theodore Racing car, Lance Stroll commented “Like Jake, this is my first visit to Macau and already I can see what a fantastic place it is and the amazing street circuit it has to offer. This year is my first in Formula 3 and I had my first race victory at the season finale last month. With SJM Theodore Racing, I believe I can continue this form and challenge for a very strong result.”
