
SJM to open Casino Oceanus at Jai Alai - the "first" casino in Macau - on 15 December
(Macau, 8 December 2009) – Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. ("SJM") has announced that it will be officially opening the most recent casino in its portfolio of properties - Casino Oceanus at Jai Alai - on 15 December 2009.
The Grand Opening will be officiated over by the Chief Executive of the Macau SAR, Mr. Edmund Ho, who will be accompanied by other officiating guests and directors of SJM. The specially invited audience will witness the opening ceremony and performances.
At 8:00 p.m. the casino will formally open to the public.
Commenting on the opening, Dr. Ambrose So, Chief Executive Officer of SJM Holdings Limited, said, "Oceanus will be very successful for SJM and for Macau. It is the first casino within easy reach of the ferry terminal. The property, in the busy Outer Harbour District, provides another anchor to our business on the Macau Peninsula, the principal gaming and entertainment area of Macau. It is very satisfying for us to develop Oceanus at this strategic location and to consolidate our position further in Macau. "
Situated directly opposite the Macau ferry terminal and connected to it by an overhead covered walkway, Casino Oceanus at Jai Alai will be the most easily accessible casino to visitors arriving via the ferry terminal or the border gate with Mainland China at Gongbei.
The property comprises more than 32,000 square metres of gaming space over three floors housing more than 260 table games and over 560 slot machines. Located in the property is also a range of food and beverage outlets and retail shops.
Casino Oceanus at Jai Alai promises to become the latest landmark of Macau. Designed by the renowned casino architect, Paul Steelman, its interior is decorated in cool blue colours combined with warm reds, oranges and greens meant to be redolent of the sea and corals.
The façades of Oceanus are comprised of irregular shapes made of ETFE membrane, giving the visual impression of the building being enveloped in multi coloured bubbles.
The 2,400 staff have undergone rigorous training in the implementation of customer-oriented services to meet customer needs and achieve customer satisfaction.
