SJM sets sights on consecutive Macau Grand Prix victory with continued title sponsorship of Theodore Racing
(Macau, 17 October 2016) – Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) is delighted to reveal it will return to the Macau Grand Prix in November as title sponsor and official partner of Theodore Racing.
The successful partnership, which saw SJM achieve its second Macau GP victory with Theodore Racing last year, aims to make history with back-to-back victories at the 63rd Macau Grand Prix, which has been given FIA F3 World Cup status this year.
SJM Theodore Racing by Prema will field a three-car team for the 2016 event with drivers Felix Rosenqvist of Sweden, who won the 2015 Macau GP with the team, plus New Zealand’s Nick Cassidy and Germany’s Maximilian Gunther. SJM Theodore Racing receives continuous support from ICBC (Macau) as a Promotion Partner this year.
The SJM Theodore Racing partnership started with tremendous success in 2013, with the team winning the 60th Macau Grand Prix with Alex Lynn. The team went on to celebrate further success in 2015 with Felix Rosenqvist sealing Macau GP honours to give Theodore Racing a record eighth title.
Theodore Racing has been synonymous with the Macau Grand Prix since its founder Teddy Yip, known as “Mr. Macau Grand Prix”, first competed as a driver in 1956, and went on to enter or sponsor racing teams until 1992. Following a 21-year-break from competition, his son, Teddy Jr., revived the team name with SJM in 2013.
The SJM Theodore Racing drivers will address the media at an official team press conference at the Grand Lisboa on Tuesday 15 November 2016 before meeting with the public later that day. SJM will also host a series of activities at its various properties to celebrate the Grand Prix.
Dr. Ambrose So, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, said, “The Macau Grand Prix is a signature event on Macau’s calendar of tourism and leisure activities, and SJM is pleased to contribute once again with our support for SJM Theodore Racing. We are proud of our association with this winning team. In addition, this year also sees our continuation of title sponsorship of the SJM Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup.”
Mr. Teddy Yip Jr. added, “It is a pleasure to welcome our title sponsor SJM and promotion partner ICBC (Macau) back to our Macau Grand Prix programme. Since Theodore Racing’s return to Macau in 2013, SJM has been a loyal title sponsor and with ICBC (Macau) joining the team last year I am thrilled to have such faithful partners remain with us. We hope to deliver another victory for them this year and with reigning champion Felix plus European F3 race-winners Nick and Maxi, we have the ultimate team.”
