Felix Rosenqvist Stars with Second Place in Macau GP for SJM Theodore Racing by Prema Prema
(Macau, 20 November 2016) Felix Rosenqvist scored a superb second place in the 63rd running of the Macau Grand Prix from sixth on the grid with SJM Theodore Racing by Prema.
The Swede, two times a winner of Macau in 2014 and 2015, immediately moved up to fourth position on the opening lap. He then passed Kenta Yamashita for third into the Lisboa corner on lap three.
With two laps remaining, Rosenqvist got into the slipstream of second-placed Sergio Sette Camara, before he overtook the Brazilian at Lisboa. He then set fastest lap as he cut the gap to race leader Antonio Felix da Costa, but fell short at the finish by an agonisingly close margin.
The result meant that SJM Theodore Racing by Prema took another podium finish in Macau to follow its 2013 and 2015 victories, with Theodore Racing still the record holder of Macau wins, with a total of eight.
SJM Theodore Racing Team Principal Mr. Teddy Yip Jr. said, “What an unbelievable week it has been for us and our partners at the 63rd Macau Grand Prix. Our rookie driver Maximilian has shown great pace all weekend but luck was not on his side. The same can be said for Nick Cassidy whose performance in today's race was remarkable, he made up 17 places and who knows how high he could have finished if his race had not been cut short when he clipped the wall. And lastly, Felix - what a drive. One or two more laps and maybe we could be celebrating a record ninth victory. Still, second place tastes pretty sweet.”
SJM directors Dr. Ambrose So, Ms. Angela Leong and Dr. Rui Cunha visited the Guia Street Circuit today to show their support, cheering the team onto victory. SJM continues to be the title sponsor and official partner of SJM Theodore Racing for the third consecutive year, with ICBC (Macau) being the promotion partner.
Dr. Ambrose So, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, said, “SJM is proud to join hands with Theodore Racing in this internationally acclaimed sports event of Macau. The successful partnership celebrates the long and established friendship we have with the team’s founder Mr. Teddy Yip, and now with his son Teddy Jr. We congratulate Felix on his spectacular performance today, which brings another superb podium finish to SJM Theodore Racing.”
Felix Rosenqvist said, “In the qualification race we were not happy with the car, but from sixth on the grid we had the advantage of nothing to lose. So we took a risk with the set-up of the car, and it paid off. We were flying on the track! I gained positions at each restart and then I got up to second. I gave it everything to catch Antonio, and I was pushing like hell, but it was not quite enough. Considering where we started, we can all be very happy with this result.”
