Over 1,000 SJM staff members join sharing session on the spirit of “Two Sessions”
Following the successful conclusion of the 4th session of the 13th National People’s Conference (“NPC”) and the 4th session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (“CPPCC”), also known as the “Two Sessions”, held in Beijing last month, Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) hosted a “Two Sessions Spirit Sharing Session” on 13 April 2021 at Grand Lisboa, as part of its national educational series. The sharing session was under the guidance of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, and attended by its Director-General Mr. Chen Guo Kai. The event was also supported by the Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau and the Macau Government Tourism Office (“MGTO”). SJM invited Macau’s Deputies to the NPC Mr. Chui Sai Peng and Mr. Lok Po, and Deputy Director of the Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the CPPCC National Committee Ms. Ho Teng Iat to share the spirit of the Two Sessions with the team members, deepening their understanding of the Country’s major policies and development plans.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM Ms. Daisy Ho, Directors Mr. Timothy Fok, Dr. Ambrose So, Mr. David Shum and Ms. Maisy Ho joined the sharing session via live-broadcast at SJM Holdings’ Hong Kong office. At Grand Lisboa, Managing Director of SJM Ms. Angela Leong, Director Mr. Arnaldo Ho, Secretary-General Dr. Rui Cunha attended the session with over 200 team members of the company. Together with another live-broadcast session held simultaneously at Grand Lisboa’s meeting room and a replay session in the afternoon, the sharing session recorded a participation of over 1,000 SJM team members on the same day. The event also comprised non-Chinese team members aided by simultaneous interpretation, aiming to spread Macau’s success story under “One Country, Two Systems” farther and further through the concerted efforts of all employees in the company. SJM will continue to convey through various training communication channels to its employees the spirit of the Two Sessions and to instill the core value of “Loving the Motherland and Loving Macau”.
At the live-broadcast sharing, Ms. Daisy Ho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, encouraged all SJM team members to learn and share the spirit of the Two Sessions. She said, “This year’s Two Sessions are of significant importance as 2021 marks the beginning of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan and a new journey for our nation in realising its Second Centenary Goal. It is encouraging to note from the Plan the tremendous support of the Central Government to Macau. As a locally rooted company, SJM is committed to upholding the spirit of loving the Motherland and Macau. We are the first gaming operator in Macau to promote national education, and will continue to play a vanguard role in promoting patriotism, cementing the principle of ‘patriots governing Macau’ and firmly advancing the cause of ‘One Country, Two Systems’.”
Led by guest speakers Mr. Chui Sai Peng, Mr. Lok Po and Ms. Ho Teng Iat, the spirit of the Two Sessions was presented from different perspectives, covering the annual government work report and the 14th Five-Year Plan. Ms. Melina Leong, Shaanxi Committee member of the CPPCC, was the session’s moderator.
Mr. Chui Sai Peng shared with the team China’s major achievements in pandemic prevention and control. He also explained Macau’s development of “one centre, one platform, diversified industries” as highlighted in the 14th Five-Year Plan, furthering its enhancement in Chinese medicine, specialty finance and high-tech industries. His message to young people was that they should embrace the Motherland and be open to all possibilities in the Greater Bay Area, taking bold steps to innovate and to explore through Macau as a platform.
Mr. Lok Po introduced the historical background and significance of the Two Sessions. He said that the 14th Five-Year Plan has mapped out a blueprint for the nation’s future sustainable economic and social development. He emphasised the “patriots governing Hong Kong” principle is pivotal to the implementation of “One Country, Two Systems”, and the patriots governance principle is equally important to Macau on safeguarding national sovereignty and the sustainable practice of “One Country, Two Systems”.
Ms. Ho Teng Iat said at the sharing session that 2021 marks a significant milestone as the nation has embarked on a new journey in realising its Second Centenary Goal. Leveraging the great benefits and opportunities brought by the 14th Five-Year Plan, Macau should integrate into the overall development of the country, while promoting moderate economic diversification and deepening the collaboration with Hengqin. She also shared that women play a vital role in shaping social and economic development, and encouraged them to contribute to national development by their experience, intelligence and power.
During the session, SJM staff members also engaged in an interactive discussion with guest speakers on topics such as the fostering of patriotic spirit and how to seize new opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.
Given the importance of the Greater Bay Area in the national plan, SJM invited Deputy Director of MGTO Mr. Ricky Hoi to give a presentation on Macau’s “Tourism+” policy.
The Two Sessions Spirit Sharing Session is an integral part of SJM’s national educational series. SJM is the first gaming operator in Macau to promote national education. In fact, the Stanley Ho Astronautics Training Foundation has since 1992 sponsored students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan to attend the annual Astronautics Summer Camp in Beijing. In addition to supporting the patriotic-themed activities organised by the Macau SAR Government and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, SJM also organised a series of related training courses and activities for its employees and their children, including staff participation in the patriotic education programme in Jinggangshan, Jiangxi and in the training courses on Chinese history and culture offered jointly by Macau Millennium College and a research institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. As a grand tribute to the year of double celebration in 2019, the Yuanmingyuan Bronze Horse Head restored to China by Dr. Stanley Ho was returned to the Country for permanent collection, passing on the message of patriotism to Macau’s residents.
