SJM offers Macau local residents and fresh graduates vast employment opportunities
Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) is dedicated to cultivating local talent and supporting their career development, in close collaboration with the Labour Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government (“DSAL”). Twenty-seven recruitment events for Macau residents have been held for the company’s Grand Lisboa Palace integrated resort since August this year, offering vast employment opportunities for Macau local residents and fresh university graduates. SJM has also joined forces with DSAL in support of the employment of local fresh university graduates, including participating in the internship scheme initiated by the Bureau, and co-organising the Grand Lisboa Palace recruitment event for local fresh graduates on 30 October 2020. To-date, over 1,500 Macau locals have received employment offers from SJM, including approximately 180 fresh graduates.
Offering job vacancies in 30 departments via its series of recruitment activities, Grand Lisboa Palace has created a large number of new jobs as well as upward and horizontal mobility opportunities for Macau residents. A 3-day recruitment event was held at Grand Lisboa’s Grand Ballroom in August, followed by other hiring initiatives in co-operation with DSAL, Macao Federation of Trade Unions, Macao New Chinese Youth Association, local tertiary institutions and other organisations, totalling 27 recruitment events.
SJM also participated in DSAL’s “career experience” internship scheme, offering 28 local fresh graduates three months’ internships at various departments of the company, enabling them to gain some career experience while strengthening their career competitiveness and employment opportunities. SJM invited all 28 trainees to join the company upon completion of the scheme in the end of October, and 22 of them signed employment contracts with the company. A graduation and employment contract signing ceremony was held on 28 October at Grand Lisboa’s Grand Ballroom, officiated by Deputy Director of DSAL Mr. Chan Un Tong and Head of Employment Department of DSAL Ms. Margaret Mang Sui Yee.
Specially targeted for those local fresh graduates who had registered with DSAL for job openings but were unable to join the internship scheme, a job-matching activity was organised in collaboration with DSAL at the Grand Ballroom of Grand Lisboa on 30 October, attended by almost 100 graduates, among which 31 were offered jobs by SJM onsite. The recruitment event provided approximately 300 job vacancies, covering a wide range of departments such as hotel operations, housekeeping, marketing, VIP services, and food and beverage. Deputy Director of DSAL Mr. Chan Un Tong and Managing Director of SJM Ms. Angela Leong visited the event, exchanging dialogues with SJM’s Human Resources representatives and other department heads to know more about the recruitment progress, and offering encouragement to the applicants.
Ms. Daisy Ho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, said, “SJM is delighted to join forces with DSAL to offer diverse employment and training opportunities for local fresh graduates, easing their doubts and anxieties about the future at this challenging time. Fifty-three offers have been made in the internship scheme and the recruitment event in the past week alone.” She continued, “SJM fully supports the Macau SAR Government in giving priority to local residents for job openings and will continue with our hiring efforts for the Grand Lisboa Palace, which is expected to open in the first quarter of 2021, further enhancing Macau’s development into a world centre of tourism and leisure.”
