
SJM promotes responsible gaming and sustainable development
Dedicated to promoting responsible gaming, Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) recently launched a series of activities based on the theme of the Macau SAR Government’s responsible gaming (“RG”) promotions this year – “Lost Control, Lose Family”. SJM also collaborated with the Hong Kong Institute of Education for Sustainable Development in offering its staff members a Proficiency Certificate Course “Sustainable Development in Macau Tourism, Leisure, Entertainment – Responsible Gaming” for the second consecutive year. 66 staff members completed the course and were awarded certificates at the award ceremony on 5 November 2020.
SJM Responsible Gaming Promotion 2020 – RG Award & Sustainable Development Planning Certificate Presentation Ceremony was held on 5 November 2020 at the Grand Ballroom of Grand Lisboa. Attending the ceremony were Head of the Research and Investigation Department of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau Ms. Chan Ioc Sut, Acting Head of the Problem Gambling Prevention and Treatment Division of the Social Welfare Bureau Mr. Un Kin Cheong, Senior Assistant Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR Mr. Si Chen, President of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions Ms. Ho Sut Heng, Professor Fong Ka Chio of University of Macau, Professor Wang Chang Bin of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, President of the Macau Responsible Gaming Association Mr. Kuan Vai Lam, Ms. Jessica Tam of Yat On Centre, as well as Managing Director of SJM Ms. Angela Leong, Director Mr. Arnaldo Ho and Secretary-General Dr. Rui Cunha, and department heads of the company.
SJM aims to enhance the awareness and knowledge of its staff and the public about responsible gaming. An online competition “Responsible Gaming Off-Duty Casino Entry Ban” was held to deepen staff members’ understanding of the new legislation, and successfully attracted over 2,500 staff participation. In addition, SJM launched a series of family-based RG games and activities themed around “Lost Control, Lose Family”, including “The Maze Planner – Responsible Gaming Financial Planning for Family” and “Your Family Duty – RG Funfair”, aiming to prevent gaming disorders by passing the concept of prudent financial management to the young generation through communication and interactive games between parents and their children. The number of participants for this game is expected to reach 1,000. Other interactive games for families included “Healthy Family Tangram”, “Let’s Understand Off-Duty Casino Entry Ban Game” and “We All Know Responsible Gaming Quiz”.
Ms. Angela Leong, Managing Director of SJM and Chairman of the SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee said in her speech that SJM, as one of the stakeholders in society, fully supports the Macau SAR Government in promoting responsible gaming. She hoped that through education and promotional activities, SJM will help spread the important message of responsible gaming to the public, combining efforts in building a sustainable city which is prosperous, harmonious and healthy.
