SJM donates plastic bag fees to charity in support of government’s environmental policy
The Macau SAR Government imposed the “Plastic bag charge” measure on 18 November 2019 following the passing of the law “Restrictions on the provision of plastic bags” in August 2019. Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) supports the government in advocating environmental protection policies, and encourages customers to develop the habit of bringing their own shopping bags.
SJM joined the “Plastic bag charge” donation ceremony hosted by the Macau Environmental Protection Bureau (“DSPA”) at its lecture hall on 23 July 2020. In his opening speech, DSPA Director Mr. Raymond Tam Vai Man expressed thanks to all participating entities and organisations for donating their plastic bag proceeds to good causes that would benefit society and the environment. Dr. Paul Hung, President – Security & Surveillance, Environmental, Social and Governance of SJM, directed the donation to Caritas Macau on behalf of the company. A certificate of appreciation was presented by DSPA to SJM in recognition of its support in safeguarding a clean and healthy environment.
SJM keeps abreast of the latest development in environmental legislations and standards, working closely with the government in environmental protection. The company supports the plastic reduction measures, aiming to minimise the effects plastic bags have on the environment.
