
SJM donates daily necessities to Macau’s neediest with all items purchased from local SMEs
Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) announced on 11 March 2020 the donation of 3,000 Macau Jiayou Bags which are worth MOP1.5 million to Macau’s neediest via six local community associations, namely Macao Federation of Trade Unions, General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau, The Women’s General Association of Macau, Caritas Macau, Macau Special Olympics and Macau Association of the Hearing Impaired.
The bags will be distributed to 3,000 needy families in Macau, including solitary and vulnerable elderly, single-parent families, the chronically ill and persons with disabilities. Each bag contains rice, noodles, oatmeal, canned food, toilet paper, masks, hand sanitizers and other daily necessities, with all items purchased from local SME vendors as a sign of SJM’s continued support at this critical time. The activity also involves the participation of SJM staff who assist in packing the bags. Furthermore, the SJM Volunteer Team will provide door-to-door delivery service to the elderly and other needy recipients.
The donation ceremony was held at Grand Lisboa today, attended by Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer Ms. Angela Leong and representatives of the six NGOs: President of Macao Federation of Trade Unions Ms. Ho Sut Heng, President of the Board of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau Ms. Ng Sio Lai, Vice-Chairwoman of The Women’s General Association of Macau Ms. Paula Ling Hsiao Yun, Secretary General of Caritas Macau Mr. Paul Pun Chi Meng, Executive Director of Macau Special Olympics Mr. Hetzer Siu Yu Hong and Chairman of Macau Association of the Hearing Impaired Mr. Chio Chon Wan.
Ms. Daisy Ho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, said, “Standing firmly with the Macau community in combating the coronavirus, SJM is pleased to share love and warmth with Macau’s needy families, while showing our support for the local SMEs. We sincerely thank our community partners for their whole-hearted assistance, and our staff members for their active participation. United in love, we are confident that the Central Government will win this battle against the epidemic, and the Macau SAR government will lead us through this challenging time.”
SJM donated MOP20 million in February to aid coronavirus control and relief efforts in Hubei under the coordination of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR. SJM will continue to fight the virus, remaining united with the government and all Macau people.
