Supported by the Macau SAR Government and under the guidance of China Economic and Social Council of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the 8^th International Forum on Clean Energy was successfully held in Macau from 20 to 21 November 2019. The Forum was organised by the International Forum for Clean Energy (Macao), with Macao Foundation, Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Environmental Protection Bureau and Office for the Development of the Energy Sector of the Macau SAR Government, and the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) as supporting organisations. SJM Holdings Limited is one of the co-organisers.

With the theme “Promote the Green Development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Stride towards a New Era of High Quality Energy Development”, the Forum gathered over 200 representatives from the government, industry and academia from around the world to discuss about the green development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, focusing on offshore wind power, hydrogen energy, fuel cell, energy internet, green finance and relevant investment, and cooperation opportunities to prospect a promising future of high-quality clean energy development.

Mr. Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, officiated at the opening ceremony on 20 November together with Mr. Yao Jian, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, Ms. Wang Dong, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macau SAR, Mr. Wu Zhiliang, President of the Macao Foundation Administrative Council, Mr. Elliott Harris, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development and Chief Economist of the United Nations, and Dr. Ambrose So, Director-General of IFCE (Macao). Two editions of 2019 Blue Book on Clean Energy were officially launched by the Forum at the opening ceremony.

Dr. Ambrose So remarked in his speech that Macau, with support from the Central Government, has enjoyed political stability, economic prosperity and social harmony since its return to China, making the SAR a successful demonstration of the implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. The Forum has become an important think tank for energy conservation and environmental protection under the “One Country, Two Systems” with growing influence. The Forum will enhance the international community’s confidence in China’s commitment to the Paris Agreement, and in engaging Macau in the green development of the Greater Bay Area, upholding the successful implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle and promoting the transition and high quality development of energy.
