SJM honoured with Corporate Social Responsibility Award in 2018 Business Awards of Macau
Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) was presented the “Corporate Social Responsibility” Excellence Award on 15 November 2018 at the 2018 Business Awards of Macau in recognition of its concentrated efforts to support local SME restaurants affected by Typhoon Hato last year in the San Ma Lou and Inner Harbour Area, thereby also promoting Macau’s culinary culture and the “2018 Macau Year of Gastronomy” initiative.
The sixth annual Business Awards of Macau ceremony was held at Grand Lisboa Hotel tonight, with SJM and Grand Lisboa as the ceremony partners of the event for the sixth consecutive year. Dr. Rui Cunha, Director of SJM, said in his welcome speech, “SJM considers the Business Awards program to be extremely important in giving recognition to outstanding achievements in such diverse categories as leadership, entrepreneurship, environmental protection and corporate social responsibility. The Business Awards program has another very useful purpose, in motivating other organizations and individual leaders to join the present and past winners that these Awards honour for propelling Macau’s growth and development.”
The “Corporate Social Responsibility” Excellence Award commended the campaign launched by SJM for the local SME restaurants this year – “SJM provides benefits to SME restaurants in San Ma Lou and Inner Harbour Area, promoting Macau as the City of Gastronomy”, which aims to drive the traffic and business growth of local SME restaurants affected by last year’s Typhoon Hato. Reflecting the Macau SAR Government’s policy on local SMEs, the campaign also promotes Macau’s culinary culture in support of the “2018 Macau Year of Gastronomy” initiative by providing free advertising and other promotion opportunities for the participating restaurants through a multitude of channels. Dr. Paul Hung, Assistant Chief Operating Officer of SJM, received the award on behalf of the company.
In addition, Yat On Responsible Gambling Counselling Centre (“Yat On Centre”), funded by SJM, was presented with the “Non-Profit Organisation” Excellence Award, received by Professor Mok Kai Meng, Director-General of Yat On Centre at the ceremony tonight. The award recognized the contributions of Yat On Centre towards its promotion of responsible gambling, and its provision of support services for pathological gamblers.
Ms. Angela Leong, Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of SJM, said, “With our roots in Macau, SJM is dedicated to supporting local SMEs, adhering to the company principle of ‘from society to society’. This year we have launched a campaign for SME restaurants in San Ma Lou and Inner Harbour Area, aiming to further our support to local eateries and join forces with them in promoting Macau’s culinary culture, while strengthening Macau’s position as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. She continued, “We are also delighted that Yat On Centre was recognized tonight for its long term contribution to society, helping to spread the important message of responsible gambling to the public.”
