SJM donates children’s books to Cradle of Hope Association and Lar De Nossa Senhora Da Penha of Caritas Macau
7 September 2024 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) understands the importance of nurturing Macau’s young generation and is passionate about supporting the growth and development of local children. In a recent initiative to enrich the lives of children, SJM collected pre-loved children’s books from team members and donated them to Cradle of Hope Association and Lar De Nossa Senhora Da Penha of Caritas Macau in September. SJM hopes that by giving books to children, this will help improve their concentration and reading skills, while also nurturing their body, mind, and soul in a balanced and healthy way.
This marks the second consecutive year for SJM to donate second-hand children’s books to the Cradle of Hope Association. On 1 September, SJM and Macao Science Center collaborated to bring a science outreach activity to the Cradle of Hope Association’s Fountain of Hope, presenting a science-themed drama “The Tree of Life: Darwin” for 24 children to learn about science in an entertaining way. The drama is part of the “Science and Reading Literacy Enhancement Programme” which is sponsored by SJM and supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, more than 30 performances have been held since February this year. The children also witnessed an impromptu liquid nitrogen scientific experiment, giving them the chance to experience the wonders of the scientific world in an exciting and interactive way. On 7 September, SJM team members also visited Lar De Nossa Senhora Da Penha of Caritas Macau to play fun and interactive games with 10 children.
They also used their creativity to create a hopeful vision for a brighter future. SJM team members also presented books to the children, held an impromptu story-telling session, and read books together. In addition to donating second-hand children’s books, SJM also presented newly purchased stationery and toys to the children, as well as SJM’s “Sam the Rooster” mascot toy. The visit was full of laughter, cheer, and a very memorable experience for all.
As last year’s second-hand book collection initiative received such enthusiastic support from team members, SJM collected pre-loved books once again between May and June this year, hoping to give second-hand books a new lease of life. After careful selection and sorting, the children’s books have been given to local children. The aim of this initiative is to convey SJM’s care for Macau’s youths; to encourage the young generation to develop good reading habits, and instil a positive culture of reading throughout the community.
