SJM celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival and Macau Senior Citizens’ Day with local community associations
13 September 2024 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) has long been dedicated to spreading care and love throughout the community. In celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival and to honour Macau Senior Citizens’ Day, SJM organised the “SJM Spreading Warmth Mid-Autumn Outreach Programme,” visiting various local organisations, schools, single-parent and disadvantaged households, and the homes of elderly individuals living alone, to share gifts and spread good cheer. SJM also sponsored the “2024 Respect and Love the Elderly in Celebration of Senior Citizens’ Day Event Series” to bring happiness to elderly individuals and inject positivity into the community.
Spreading Warm Mid-Autumn Blessings throughout Macau
From 2 to 13 September, SJM Volunteer Team visited the members and families of Macau Special Olympics and Macau Association of the Hearing Impaired, Macau Down Syndrome Association, Child Protection Centre of the Against Child Abuse (Macau) Association, Escola de São José de Ká Hó, elderly individuals residing alone, single-parent families, low-income households and more. The volunteers shared the warmth and festive traditions of Mid-Autumn – a time of celebratory family reunions – by presenting mooncakes to approximately 900 households and more than 2,700 individuals, giving them an opportunity to experience the joy of the festive holidays together.
Sponsoring a Series of Senior Citizens’ Day Events to Spread Happiness and Joy
Beyond door-to-door visits throughout the community, SJM also sponsored the “2024 Respect and Love the Elderly in Celebration of Senior Citizens’ Day Event Series,” organised by the Macau General Union of Neighborhood Associations and co-organised by the Macau Holy House of Mercy. This included a “Senior Citizens’ Happy Day Workshop” and a “Senior Citizens’ Happy Half-day Tour.” Team members were dedicated to fostering moments of joy and creating lasting memories for the elderly participants.
“Senior Citizens’ Happy Day Workshop"
On 11 September, SJM invited nearly 30 elderly individuals to participate in a “Senior Citizens’ Happy Day Workshop” at the GLP Art Workshops set within the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (“Grand Lisboa Palace”). Led by professional instructors, senior citizens learned the art of crafting traditional Mid-Autumn lanterns, gaining insights into the enduring customs and crafts of Chinese culture. SJM Team members engaged with the seniors, reminiscing about childhood memories of the festive occasion and sharing stories that bridged generations. This heartwarming interaction created a truly memorable experience for all involved.
“Senior Citizens’ Happy Half-day Tour”
On 12 September, SJM welcomed another group of nearly 30 elderly individuals to a delightful “Senior Citizens’ Happy Half-day Tour” to visit the hotel accommodations and appreciate the art collection at Grand Lisboa Palace. They also strolled through the lush green European-style gardens of Jardim Secreto, taking in the vibrant “Dragons of the Four Seas Tribute to Macau” lantern art exhibition. After enjoying their walk and taking photos, the senior citizens enjoyed a leisurely afternoon tea with mooncakes at the Eight Treasures restaurant. Following on from the tour, SJM presented each participant with nourishing herbal soup packs, designed to strengthen lungs and promote health and longevity.
Firmly rooted in Macau, SJM deeply cares about contributing to the community and making a positive impact on society. SJM has always remained committed toward making the most of its own ability to help disadvantaged groups and carry forward the company’s long-standing philosophy of “from society, to society”. SJM also continually strives to create a platform for employees to participate in a variety of community events, encouraging them to lend a helping hand to local community associations and disadvantaged groups.
