
SJM leads students from three Macau Universities on a Nansha familiarisation tour
29 March 2024 – To foster cultural exchange and integration within the Greater Bay Area and support comprehensive development for young individuals, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) led 14 university students from University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic University, and Macau University of Science and Technology on a three-day inspection tour to Guangzhou’s Nansha in March. The program encompasses elements of patriotic education, science, formal education, and leisure travel, aiming to strengthen the connection of these young participants with the Motherland and enhance their awareness of the Greater Bay Area’s growth.
The exchange trip was organised by SJM in partnership with the Macao Fok Ying Tung Foundation and the Guangzhou Nansha Cultural Association. The participants visited key sites including the “Nansha Pearl Bay Planning Exhibition Hall”, the “Nansha G-Rocket International Accelerator Entrepreneurship Base”, and the “Wule Service Centre at Nansha Hong Kong and Macao Youth Service Centre”. The trip also comprised a sharing experience by a Hong Kong guide on the government’s subsidy and incentive plans for Hong Kong and Macau youths in terms of studying, interning, employment, entrepreneurship, and living in the area. The delegation visited key historical sites, including the original location of the Nansha Tianhou Temple and Dajiao Mountain Fort. They honoured national heroes at the Dajiao Mountain Coastal Defense Education Base, reinforcing the importance of national security. A visit to the Lanhe Town Xinghai Hometown Historical and Cultural Center allowed them to explore the life of Mr. Xian Xinghai and draw inspiration from the spirited “Defend the Yellow River”, the seventh movement of the “Yellow River Cantata” composed during the Sino-Japanese War. The cultural itinerary also included a trip to the Xiangyunsha Intangible Cultural Heritage Industrial Park, where the students immersed themselves in Tanka culture and participated in the “guowu” process, a crucial step in the dyeing of Xiangyunsha fabric. In the realm of technological innovation, the group toured the GAC Technology Museum and the iFLYTEK South China AI Research Institute, Here, they experienced firsthand the benefits and excitement that artificial intelligence contributes to societal advancement, and they felt a deep sense of pride in the nation’s swift technological progress. The journey concluded at the Guangzhou Nansha Yacht Club, where they gained insights into the growth of Nansha’s tourism and leisure sectors.
The students described the trip as immensely enriching, expanding their perspectives and offering valuable experiences and insights that will benefit their future education and career paths. They expressed eagerness for more opportunities to contribute to the development of the Motherland.
