28 Aug 2024 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) hosted the 20th SJM Scholarship Award Ceremony today at the Grand Ballroom of Grand Lisboa Macau, awarding scholarships totalling MOP710,000 to 35 outstanding children of employees. Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, attended the event, joining the students and their families in celebrating this significant milestone.

Since its launch in 2005, the SJM Scholarship has annually recognised academically outstanding children of employees, supporting their university education and helping them pursue their aspirations. To date, the programme has sponsored over 200 exceptional students, with total contributions exceeding MOP14,000,000. This year, the SJM Scholarship selected 10 exemplary students: Li Zhenghan, Hong Song Pok, Chio Kam Ian, Chan Chi Cheng, Cheong Si Kei, Li Fong Teng, Ng San San, Wong Chon Hon, Choi Hio Teng, and Wong I Kei. Each recipient will receive an annual scholarship of MOP20,000 throughout their university studies. Additionally, SJM has renewed scholarships for 25 previous recipients, each valued at MOP20,000, for the new academic year. Among them, Ouyang Lam Cheong and Wong Ian Kit were honoured with an “Outstanding Performance Award” and a MOP5,000 book grant in recognition of their excellent academic achievements last year.

Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, said in her speech, “The SJM Scholarship underscores our dedication to the ‘Building Macau Through Talent’ initiative and our commitment to nurturing the city’s future leaders. It also reflects our support and care for our colleagues and their families. We hope these students will embrace the opportunities the scholarship provides to step out of their comfort zones, explore new experiences, broaden their perspectives, and develop a range of skills - all of which are vital for Macau’s economic diversification.” She also urged the students to cultivate a deep love for their country and Macau, to actively contribute to the nation’s development, and to engage in community affairs, thereby supporting the growth of both Macau and the nation.

A representative of this year’s scholarship recipients, Cheong Si Kei, expressed her gratitude to SJM for the recognition, “Receiving the SJM Scholarship marked a perfect end to my middle school journey. It has provided me with a high-quality learning environment and valuable resources, inspiring me to remain true to my aspirations and confidently pursue my university studies. ”

Over the years, SJM has harnessed its diverse range of programmes to enrich the lives of its employees and their children, offering ample opportunities for personal growth and development. In addition to the scholarship, SJM also hosts an annual series of summer classes for employees’ children, offering a variety of free activities from sports and culinary arts to creative sciences. This allows children to acquire new skills and explore interests during their summer break. Since 2014, SJM has also integrated patriotic education into its offerings for employees’ children, organising enriching excursions to Jinggangshan in Jiangxi Province to instil a deep sense of patriotism. In 2023, SJM launched the “My Motherland and I: Academic tour to the Greater Bay Area” project, which provides employees and their children with a profound experience of the nation’s developmental achievements, fostering a greater appreciation for their country and bolstering national pride. These multifaceted initiatives not only highlight SJM’s dedication to supporting its employees and their families but also support the Macau government’s strategy of “Building Macau through Talent.” This strategic alignment helps fuel the long-term prosperity and stability of both Macau and the broader nation, underscoring SJM’s role as a key contributor to regional development.
