27 May 2024 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) has once again partnered with the Judiciary Police to host the “Crime Prevention Workshop for Gaming Enterprise Employees”, to strengthen efforts in combating and preventing crime in Macau, and to foster a stronger collaboration between the police and the community for the healthy development of the gaming sector.
The workshop took place on 5 May at the Peach Blossom Room in the Grand Lisboa Hotel. Head of the Gaming-related Crimes Prevention & Investigation Section, Mr. Au Kin Wang, participated in the group discussion alongside 10 representatives from the Judiciary Police. Forty-six employees from various SJM departments, including Security, Table Games Operations, Electronic Gaming, Food and Beverage, Hotel Operations, Resort Premium Market Development, Surveillance, and Accounting, also participated in this event.
At the workshop, Judiciary Police officers explained their departmental structure, reporting procedures, roles and responsibilities, and relevant local laws. They specifically addressed the nature and examples of gaming-related crimes, common cybercrimes, latest trends of common telephone scams, and other emerging public security challenges. Crime prevention videos and real-life case studies were brought up during the workshop to enhance employees' awareness and skills in crime prevention, covering topics like online romance scams, domestic violence, crime scene evidence preservation, and legal knowledge on drug-related offences.
The workshop also included interactive group sessions between SJM employees and Judiciary Police officers, exploring potential security challenges faced in their daily work and life. An engaging quiz was conducted to great enthusiasm from our Colleagues. The Judiciary Police encouraged SJM staff to share knowledge gained from the workshop among their peers, and establish a robust communication and cooperation framework between the police and civilians for effective crime prevention and eradication, thereby fostering healthy development of the gaming industry in the community.
Mr. Au Kin Wang, Representative of Judiciary Police and Head of Section, expressed appreciation for SJM’s ongoing partnership with the Judiciary Police. He emphasised the Judiciary Police’s commitment to promote anti-fraud education by engaging with various community sectors. The workshop is part of an ongoing initiative to equip frontline employees with essential knowledge regarding crime prevention, awareness of emerging fraud and crime trends, and gradually lower the risks associated with fraud and criminal activities. The aim is to combat crime and support the Judiciary Police in upholding societal security and stability.
Participants from SJM remarked that the workshop significantly raised their awareness of fraud and criminal activities, and equipped them with vital knowledge to prevent deception and effectively reduce the danger of fraud. They expressed that they will apply the knowledge gained from the workshop to their daily lives and share it with their colleagues and families.
As a homegrown Macau enterprise, SJM is consistently aligned with the SAR government’s policies. Looking into the future, SJM is committed to encouraging further employee participation in the “Crime Prevention Workshop for Gaming Enterprise Employees”, as a significant contribution to a stronger and more comprehensive crime prevention network for gaming employees in Macau.
