SJM invites underprivileged students and grassroots families to the Five-a-side Football Friendly: Portugal Icons vs. GBA Flying Dragon
19 May 2024 – Presented by SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”), the Five-a-side Football Friendly: Portugal Icons vs. GBA Flying Dragon successfully concluded on 19 May at the Macao East Asian Games Dome, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau SAR. Thanks to the support of the Charity Fund From the Readers of Macao Daily News, Macau Federation of Trade Unions, General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau, Women’s General Association of Macau, Caritas Macau, University of Macao, Macao Polytechnic University, and Macau University of Science and Technology, SJM invited 300 underprivileged students, grassroots families, disadvantaged groups, and university football team members from Macau to the game to experience the vibrant football carnival atmosphere.
With the Portugal Icons Team led by former FIFA World Player of the Year Luis Figo together with the GBA Flying Dragon comprising players from the Greater Bay Area and the Hong Kong Star Football Team, residents and tourists were treated to a five-a-side sporting spectacle. Through this sports event, SJM aimed to manifest Macau’s platform role between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, to promote Macau’s status as a “City of Sports”, and showcase Macau’s charm as a “world centre of tourism and leisure” to the world. SJM also organised a series of extension community activities surrounding the competition, including a football camp for young members at the Macao Football Youth Academy, and invited students and members from Macau’s low-income families through local NGOs to enjoy the game.
