SJM supports Macau European Chamber of Commerce Gala Dinner for the 10th consecutive year
10 May 2024 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) was the Platinum Sponsor of the Gala Dinner of Macau European Chamber of Commerce (“MECC”) for the 10th consecutive year. This year’s dinner was held at the Grand Pavilion of Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau on 10 May 2024 with the presence of representatives from the Macau SAR Government, Consuls of European countries in Hong Kong and Macau.
SJM is committed to promoting commercial and cultural exchanges between China and Europe through Macau, as well as to propelling Macau’s tourism through international travel. Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, gave her speech via video, “For 10 years running, SJM has proudly celebrated the close partnership between Macau and Europe with MECC’s distinguished congregation. We are particularly excited that Macau has been named as a ‘Preferred Destination 2025’ by European Travel Agents and Tour Operators’ Associations. I look forward to working with Macao Government Tourism Office and all of you to make the best out of 2025, showcasing Macau’s top-notch hospitality to the European audience.”
The theme of the Gala Dinner was “Nordic Lights”, inspired by Nordic countries encompassing the countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Dr. Ambrose So, Honorary Consul of Portugal in Hong Kong and Honorary Chairman of MECC, said in his speech, “These countries are the forefront of social progress and equality and have implemented inclusive policies that prioritize education, healthcare, and social welfare, thereby ensuring that their citizens can thrive in a supportive and equitable society. Macau, as a vibrant hub of commerce and cultural exchange, has much to gain from strengthening ties with the Nordic states. By leveraging each other's strengths and expertise, both Macau and the Nordic states can create mutually beneficial relationships that foster growth and prosperity.”
Mr. Rui Pedro Cunha, President of the Board of Directors of MECC, said in his speech, “In my speech last year, I hoped the new talent attraction scheme would make it easier to hire the foreign talent that Macau needs. Unfortunately, we haven’t yet seen the expected fruits of this initiative, so we will keep hoping that next year will bring better news. On a happier note, this year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the return of Macau to China, and we take pride in seeing Macau continue to develop in a way that includes all communities”.
