SJM participates in the “Earth Hour 2024” lights-out campaign
23 March 2024 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) continues to support the “Earth Hour” lights-out campaign. All of SJM’s hotels and casinos switched off their exterior lights and non-essential indoor illuminations on 23 March at 8:30 p.m. for one hour. By participating in this important annual global environmental event, SJM aims to raise the community’s awareness of mitigating climate change, practicing energy conservation, implementing carbon reduction measures, and promoting sustainable development.
SJM fully supports and is proactively collaborating with the Macau SAR Government’s environmental policies to build a green city. In addition to participating in the annual lights-out campaign, SJM regularly implements many environmental protection initiatives throughout the year to integrate green policies and low carbon practices into business operations. These environmental measures include switching off non-essential lights and appliances in the office during lunch hours; setting air conditioner temperatures at no lower than 25°C; increasing environmental awareness among all employees by conducting a variety of environmental training sessions; promoting water conservation and waste recycling management measures; promoting green culinary practices at restaurants and more. The Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (“Grand Lisboa Palace”) also turns off all non-essential lights on the first Tuesday of every month and operates both electric and green energy vehicles to cater for eco-conscious travelers, reduce its carbon footprint, lower energy consumption, and contribute to the sustainable development of Macau as a green destination.
