SJM celebrates Chinese New Year with auspicious lion dance parade
12 February 2024 - On the first day of the Chinese New Year, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”), celebrated the advent of the Dragon Year with the “SJM Lion Dance Parade” at its iconic Grand Lisboa Macau (“Grand Lisboa”) and Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (“Grand Lisboa Palace”), bringing together residents and tourists in a jubilant celebration.
Under a festive spirit, Dr. Rui Cunha, Secretary-General; Mr. Benjamin Toh, Chief Operating Officer; Mr. Daniel Shim, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer; and Dr. Nuno Martins, Vice-Secretary General of SJM, officiated at an eye-dotting ceremony to awaken the lions. Accompanied by the resonant beats of drums and crackle of firecrackers, the energetic lion dancers made their way through the Grand Lisboa and Grand Lisboa Palace, extending New Year greetings to the assembled crowds, spreading festive joy and New Year wishes to citizens, visitors and businesses alike.
Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, remarked, “SJM is delighted to welcome the Year of the Dragon with all residents and visitors of Macau, wishing everyone a vigorous and prosperous year! The Chinese dragon is a composite of various animals, which parallels the essence of Chinese civilisation’s diverse unity. Similarly, Macau, rooted in Chinese culture yet enriched with a tapestry of multicultural influences, mirrors this integrated diversity. With the diversification of non-gaming projects aiming to build a ‘World Centre of Tourism and Leisure’, Macau will embrace a new vista in the Year of the Dragon. In the new year, SJM will continue to drive forward the revitalisation plan of San Ma Lo (Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro) District and intensify efforts to build a ‘Creative City of Gastronomy,’ a ‘City of Performing Arts,’ and a ‘City of Sports,’ contributing to Macau’s dynamic economic growth and attracting more international visitors.”
On the third day of the Chinese New Year at 11:30 a.m., SJM hosted another lion dance performance at Jai Alai Oceanus, the community and visitors joined in the festivities.
