SJM hosts various Chinese New Year community events to support the underprivileged
2 February 2024 - SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”), committed to social responsibility, is showing care for vulnerable communities during the Chinese New Year. SJM has partnered with The Women’s General Association of Macau and the Macau Down Syndrome Association to organise various themed community events. SJM has also collaborated with the Macau Social Services Centre to visit underprivileged families and solitary elderly from the Macau Special Olympics, the Macau Association for the Hearing Impaired, and the Escola de São José de Ká-Hó to offer blessings, comfort, and care, bringing warmth and joy to the community during the festive season.
On 26 January, SJM extended a warm invitation to 30 senior citizens from the Departamento de Serviços na Zona Norte of The Women’s General Association of Macau, to visit and experience the New Year festivities at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (“Grand Lisboa Palace”). Accompanied by SJM’s team members, these seniors were treated to a tour of the vibrant festive displays including the 3D Giant Dragon and Lucky Peach Blossoms, followed by a pleasant afternoon tea at the Eight Treasures, where they enjoyed a selection of fine tea snacks and traditional New Year pastries. The SJM team conducted engaging games and distributed New Year gifts and auspicious couplets to the seniors, with everyone bringing home a heartwarming and memorable experience.
On 27 January, SJM organised a Chinese New Year art workshop at the “GLP Art Workshops” for members of the Macau Down Syndrome Association. Families worked together under the guidance of professional instructors to create festive New Year decorations, celebrating the Year of the Dragon. The event was an excellent opportunity for parents and children to engage in meaningful interaction, while also providing a chance for the younger attendees to learn about Chinese traditions, customs, and cultural heritage. The joyful and educational experience concluded under a friendly and warm atmosphere filled with laughter.
Between 15 January and 2 February, SJM mobilised a team of 60 volunteers for a Chinese New Year outreach programme, visiting close to a thousand households and positively impacting over 2,500 people with their acts of kindness. This initiative, in collaboration with the Macau Social Services Centre, supported a diverse group including families from the Macau Special Olympics, the Macau Association for the Hearing Impaired, solitary elderly, single-parent families, economically disadvantaged households, Down Syndrome families, and students at the Escola de São José de Ká-Hó. The SJM volunteers, alongside social workers from the Macau Social Services Centre, engaged with each family to provide comfort and warm wishes. The volunteers distributed carefully selected gifts, bringing festive joy and support to the less fortunate families, fostering a happy and inclusive New Year. This effort is also part of SJM’s commitment to promote volunteerism among its staff, enhancing community service and contributing to social harmony in Macau.
Deeply rooted in Macau, SJM is dedicated to actively engaging in and supporting a range of community welfare programmes, spreading positive energy across the society. Particularly during festive seasons, SJM hosts themed events aimed at spreading warmth and care, contributing to the nurturing of a harmonious community. Continuing on this path, SJM is committed to maintaining strong collaborations with local associations to foster the healthy growth of the community through a variety of meaningful activities.
