SJM holds “Tell China Stories” workshop to promote Chinese traditional sports culture and promulgates “Love the Motherland and Love Macau” spirit
13 January 2024 - Rooted in Macau for several decades, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) actively supports the administrative policy of the Macau SAR Government in promoting sports to the public and fully endorses the development of sports events in both the Motherland and Macau. The SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee (“SWCC”) organised a “Tell China Stories” parent-children workshop on 13 January at the Kam Pek Community Centre. The workshop aimed to deepen employees’ and their children’s understanding of the development of sports events in the Motherland, encouraging the younger generation to promote Chinese traditional sports culture and to embrace the “Love the Motherland and Love Macau” spirit. The event attracted the participation of 23 employees’ families.
The workshop featured a diverse range of content, including a detailed introduction to the development history of sports events in the Motherland, an exploration of China’s successful hosting of the Olympic Games and the Asian Games, as well as presentations by tutors highlighting the stories of three athletes who achieved their championship awards at the 2023 Asian Games Hangzhou. These athletes included Ms. Quan Hongchan, who secured the gold medal in the individual 10-metre platform event, Mr. Xie Zhenye, the champion in the athletics 100 metres event, and Mr. Zhang Boheng, who triumphed in the men’s individual all-around Gymnastics Championships. Additionally, the workshop featured a presentation by Mr. Song Chi Kuan, a local wushu athlete who achieved the second runner-up position at the 2023 Asia Games Hangzhou in changquan and became the champion at the World Wushu Championships in fencing, who shared his experiences. Through this workshop, SWCC aims to inspire employees and their children to learn from both national and local sports figures, encouraging employees to engage in sports during their leisure time, fostering a sporting habit among teenagers, and promoting the spirit of “Love the Motherland and Love Macau”, thereby actively contributing to the development of sports in Macau.
In conjunction with the Lunar New Year’s eve, the workshop also created 3-dimensional decorations for the Year of Dragon in 2024, celebrating this Chinese traditional festival, which has been included in the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and deepening the children’s understanding of this traditional Chinese festival.
