6 January 2024 - SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”), committed to nurturing innovative opportunities in Macau’s design industry, has once again partnered with the Macau Designers Association (“MDA”) to organise the “Macau Design Award 2023 Sharing Session” on 6 January 2024. This event, themed “Local Creativity and International Language,” brought together nearly 50 participants from various academic and professional institutions. It served as a platform for showcasing the ingenuity of Macau’s designers and promoting collaboration and exchange within the local design community.

The session featured esteemed speakers, including Mr. Chao Sio Leong, Chairman of MDA; Mr. Ao Chon Hin, recipient of the 2021 SJM New Talent Award; and Mr. Kenneth Ho, recipient of the same award in 2023. Mr. Ao Chon Hin shared insights into his collaborative projects with SJM while Mr. Kenneth Ho discussed the creative processes and narratives behind this year’s award-winning piece. This interactive session provided attendees with an in-depth understanding of current trends, challenges, and opportunities in the design sector, fostering a dynamic and engaging environment. Post-session, the attendees visited the “Macau Design Award 2023 Winning Works Exhibition,” which was organised to stimulate innovative creations and encourage more young individuals to pursue careers in design.

SJM is dedicated to the vibrant growth of the design industry. Through this exchange, SJM aspires to transfer valuable knowledge and experience to the next generation of designers, actively promoting participation in the field among creative youths. SJM’s ongoing collaborations with MDA not only offer a stage for local designers to express their creativity but also strive to open more avenues for them to gain international recognition, thereby elevating Macau’s status in the global design arena.

The “Macau Design Awards 2023 Winning Works Exhibition” is open to the public, free of charge, from 8 January until 18 February 2024, daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Shop 204, Level 2, Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau. The exhibition showcases 272 carefully selected works from the 2023 edition, as well as unique products developed in partnership with winners of the previous SJM New Talent Award. This year’s theme, “The Future of Design,” invites exploration into the evolving trends, challenges, and opportunities in design, seeking to redefine and appreciate its value.
