
SJM holds calligraphy and painting exhibition to promote Chinese culture
11 December 2023 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) and Macau Chinese Culture and Arts Association jointly brought to the public an exhibition of artworks by students, who had attended the Chinese calligraphy and painting class organised by SJM, from 12 to 15 December 2023 at Kam Pek Community Centre. The exhibition aimed to promote Chinese culture among SJM’s incumbent and retired staff members and showcase their talents.
The opening ceremony on 11 December was officiated by the Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macao SAR Ms Bai Bing, Director of SJM and Chairman of the SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee Ms. Angela Leong, President of Associação de Arte e Cultura “Wa Ha” Macau Mr Kuan Kun Cheong, Honorary Life President of Association of Chinese Calligraphy and Arts, Macao Mr. Ho Loi Seng, Founding President of Associação de Caligrafia e Pintura Keng San de Macau Mr. Ieong Keang San, Vice-President of Associação das Calígrafas, Pintoras e Escultoras de Selos de Macau Ms. Ho Lai Sim, and Head of Instituto da Caligrafia de Macau Ms Ma Teng.
In celebration of the 74th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the 24th Anniversary of the establishment of Macau SAR, SJM collaborated with the Macau Chinese Culture and Arts Association to promote patriotic education through the exhibition, which comprised 79 pieces of artworks from 6 tutors and 16 outstanding students from the Chinese calligraphy and painting class of the current year. The exhibition also showcased a masterpiece of the renowned calligrapher Dr. Ambrose So.
SJM has organised Chinese calligraphy and painting classes for its staff members since 2019, with this exhibition being held for the third consecutive year. The class aims to promote cultural exchange between incumbent and retired employees. Tutors include Kuan Kun Cheong, Fok Chi Chiu, Ieong Keang San, Ho Loi Seng, and Ho Lai Sim, who teach the basic calligraphy and drawing of flowers and birds to the students.
