SJM Continues its Collaboration with Judiciary Police for “Gaming Enterprise Employees’ Crime Prevention Workshop”
23 November 2023 – SJM Resorts, S.A. (SJM) has once again partnered with the Judiciary Police to host the “Crime Prevention Workshop for Gaming Enterprise Employees”, aiming to strengthen crime prevention and combat efforts in Macau, and to foster a collaborative relationship between the police and the community for the healthy development of the gaming sector.
The workshop took place on 23 November at the Peach Blossom Room in the Grand Lisboa Hotel. It was led by Head of Gaming-related Crimes Patrol Section of Judiciary Police Mr. Lau Chun Wai, alongside 12 experienced criminal investigation officers from the Gaming-related Crimes Division, Forensic Science Department, Narcotics Division, Section for Offences against Persons, and Centro de Coordenação de Combate às Buelas. Fifty employees from various SJM departments, including Security, Table Games Operations, Electronic Gaming, Food and Beverage, Hotel Operations, Resort Premium Market Development, Surveillance, and Accounting, actively participated in this event.
During the workshop, Judiciary Police officers described the structure of their department, reporting procedures, roles and responsibilities, and relevant local laws. They specifically addressed the nature and examples of gaming-related crimes, common cybercrimes, telephone scams, and other emerging public security challenges. The workshop used crime prevention videos and real-life case studies to enhance the employees' awareness and skills in crime prevention, covering topics like online romance scams, domestic violence, crime scene evidence preservation, and legal knowledge on drug-related offences.
The workshop also included interactive group discussions between SJM employees and Judiciary Police officers, where they explored potential security challenges faced in their daily work and life. An engaging quiz was conducted, demonstrating the employees’ keenness and alertness in crime prevention. The Judiciary Police encouraged SJM staff to pass on knowledge gained from the workshop among their peers, aiming to establish a robust communication and cooperation framework between the police and the community for effective crime prevention and eradication, thereby fostering societal well-being.
Mr. Lau Chun Wai, Head of Gaming-related Crimes Patrol Section, expressed appreciation for SJM’s ongoing partnership with the Judiciary Police. He highlighted the Judiciary Police’s commitment to engaging with various community sectors to promote anti-fraud education. The workshop is part of an ongoing initiative to equip frontline employees with essential knowledge on crime prevention, awareness of new fraud and crime trends, ultimately enhancing the community’s ability to prevent and reduce crimes.
Participants from SJM remarked that the workshop significantly raised their awareness of fraud and criminal activities, equipping them with vital knowledge to prevent deception in both their personal and professional lives, thereby contributing to a lower crime rate in Macau.
As a homegrown Macau enterprise, SJM has consistently supported and aligned with the SAR government’s policies. Looking ahead, SJM is committed to encouraging more employee participation in the “Crime Prevention Workshop for Gaming Enterprise Employees”, contributing to the creation of a stronger and more comprehensive crime prevention network in Macau.
