
SJM Occupational Safety and Health Week 2023 – “Let’s Build Up The Healthy Workplace” Launched
4 December 2023 - SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) is actively engaging in various occupational safety and health (“OSH”) initiatives organised by the Macau Labour Affairs Bureau (“DSAL”), to promote a culture of OSH. The “SJM Occupational Safety and Health Week 2023 – Let’s Build Up The Healthy Workplace” commenced on 4 December 2023 at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (“Grand Lisboa Palace”), with a series of activities like lectures, workshops, online Q&A contests, physical fitness challenges, and booth games, aiming to foster employee awareness and knowledge in OSH.
Distinguished guests at the event included Mr. Chan Un Tong, Acting Director of DSAL, Ms. Chan Weng Chi, Acting Deputy Director, Mr. Lei Seak Chio, Department Head of Occupational Safety and Health, Dr. Rui Cunha, Secretary General of SJM, Dr. Paul Hung, President – Security, Surveillance & ESG and Ms. Rachel Chan, Senior Vice President of Human Resource.
In her video address, Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, emphasised, “SJM prioritises its people, consistently striving to provide a safe and healthy work environment for team members, and similarly for all individuals visiting our properties. We are continuously enhancing our OSH initiatives, including imparting knowledge and awareness through various platforms like events, promotions, and training. This builds a culture of mutual care and ongoing learning, and we work hand in hand with the government in advancing the continual development of OSH.”
Mr. Chan Un Tong, Acting Director of DSAL, stated, “The advancement in OSH standards requires the collective commitment from employees, employers and the government. For many years, DSAL has collaborated with the industry in promoting OSH, advocating for the reinforcement of safety consciousness and the cultivation of positive work habits among enterprises and employees. The Bureau recognises and appreciates the efforts and contributions made by SJM in the field of OSH. We would like to express our gratitude for the company’s support and cooperation in promoting OSH. We hope that the company will continue to enhance the knowledge and skills of its employees in this area, and create a safe and healthy work environment together.”
The “SJM Occupational Safety and Health Week 2023 – Let’s Build Up The Healthy Workplace” features a variety of activities scheduled from 4 to 15 December at back-of-house areas, banquet halls, meeting rooms and other locations at Grand Lisboa Palace, Grand Lisboa Macau and the Jai Alai Oceanus. The events include booth games, occupational health fitness tests, specialised lectures, yoga workshops, and first aid nursing workshops. The venues are decorated with numerous OSH messages, and there are prize quizzes and a series of promotional videos. These videos, guided by DSAL staff and filmed on SJM properties, feature employees and cover areas such as catering, housekeeping, and facility management. SJM has also previously organised the first-ever occupational health cooking contest in Macau, online knowledge contests, fitness booth games, and health and safety lecture series. SJM regularly shares OSH tips with employees and releases safety and health promotional videos.
SJM is highly committed to the occupational safety and health of its employees, with a dedicated department focusing on enhancing and implementing safety management systems to prevent accidents. SJM collaborates closely with the SAR government and DSAL, actively implementing diverse OSH activities and measures, promoting messages across various platforms, and will continue to strengthen publicity and education in this area to create an ideal working environment for its staff.
