SJM supports “The Path to be a Winner of World University Games” sharing session
30 August 2023 – Miss Wong Sum In from the University of Macau (“UM”) attained one gold and one bronze medal at the 31st FISU World University Games Summer. A sharing session titled “The Path to be a Winner of World University Games” was organised by UM on 30 August 2023, with SJM Resorts, S.A. ("SJM") being the supporting entity.
Held at UM’s Sports Pavilion, Wong Sum In shared her successful experience about how to keep a balance between sports and academics with over 600 UM staff and students. This was followed by another sharing by Prof. Wong Seng Fat, also Interim College Master of Cheng Yu Tung College, who talked about the feelings of being an athlete’s parent. The sharing session was ended with a spectacular Nanquan demonstration by Wong, which won great applause from the audience. Mr. Jones Chao, Vice President of SJM’s Human Resources, attended the sharing session and conveyed the company’s congratulations to Wong.
In addition, SJM invited Wong and the full UM Martial Arts team for a gathering at the Grand Buffet of Grand Lisboa Palace, congratulating her on her brilliant achievements and welcoming her to the UM Martial Arts team. The goal of the event is to encourage student athletes to remain determined and persistent in their efforts, and continue bringing honour to Macau.
SJM fully supports the development of sports in Macau, and puts great efforts in fostering local young athletes. The “SJM Sports Teams Development Scholarship” programme was set up at UM earlier this year, awarding MOP25,000 each to its Tennis Team and the Martial Arts Team annually. There are a number of exciting events in SJM’s sports calendar, including the Macao International Dragon Boat Races, the 11th Asian Junior Wushu Championships, Macao Open, Macau Grand Prix and CTA Tour. All these aim to enhance Macau’s status as a sports city, and provide an exchange platform for local athletes, while leveraging the synergy of “Sports + Tourism” to promote economic diversification in Macau.
