SJM arts appreciation event Macau Special Olympics Members find joy in traditional Chinese Lantern Workshop and “Virtually Versailles”
11 October 2023 - Committed to giving back to the society, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) places strong emphasis on community harmony and champions the idea of inclusive integration. To further nurture talents with special needs, SJM hosted a lantern art workshop and a guided tour of the “Virtually Versailles” on the 6 and 11 of October. These events were part of the Macau Special Olympics’ (“MSO”) “Life and Imagination” Inclusive Arts Program. In addition to the workshop, the event featured a guided tour of the “Virtually Versailles” - a standout exhibition at the “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023.” The tour aimed to stimulate the participants’ imaginations and unlock their artistic potential.
The lantern art workshop was facilitated by the professional instructor, who mentored the MSO participants in crafting various styles of lanterns, passing on the rich heritage of traditional Chinese lantern culture. Through meaningful interaction, a harmonious engagement was fostered between the disabled and non-disabled participants, empowering them to unleash their creativity and imagination.
The “Virtually Versailles” exhibition brings the Palace of Versailles to life through groundbreaking technologies such as AR, VR, virtual cycling, and 360-degree panoramic projections to provide an immersive experience, making it feel as though the audience is exploring the artistic treasures of Versailles. SJM members accompanied the participants on a guided tour of the exhibition, elevating the students’ artistic literacy through this captivating immersive experience.
The “Life and Imagination” Inclusive Arts Program is jointly organised by the MSO and Four Dimension Spatial, and is backed by the Cultural Development Fund’s “Financial Support Program for Multi-Year Cultural Activities” (《跨年度資助計劃》). The initiative is designed to inspire individuals with special needs to articulate themselves through drama and dance, underscoring universal accessibility to artistic enjoyment and the discovery and cultivation of artistic talent. Furthermore, the programme aspires to elevate public understanding of the mentally challenged by showcasing their abilities in public performances, thereby contributing to a more socially inclusive environment.
As a homegrown enterprise deeply rooted in Macau, SJM is actively engaged in supporting and spearheading a range of community-focused initiatives. We are committed to fostering the principles of inclusive integration and infusing the Macau community with positive energy. Looking ahead, SJM will sustain its close collaborations with local organisations, amplifying efforts to nurture a compassionate and harmonious community culture, thereby contributing to the development of a balanced and stable society.
