SJM and staff celebrate the 74th Anniversary of the founding of The People’s Republic of China
13 October 2023 - SJM Resorts, S.A., the SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee (“SWCC”) and the SJM Joint Consultative Committee, hosted a National Day reception on 13 October 2023 at the Grand Pavilion of the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort. The event commemorated the 74th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, and in attendance were Mr. Timothy Fok, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM; Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM; Mr. Vong Keng Hei, Representative of Consultant of the SJM Joint Consultative Committee; Dr. Ambrose So, Director of SJM; and Ms. Angela Leong, Director of SJM and Chairman of SWCC. Nearly 2,800 staff members participated in the celebration, extending their heartfelt wishes to the motherland. To ensure all staff could partake in the festivities, the reception was thoughtfully organised into two separate sessions to align with work schedules. The event will also be edited into a short video, which will be played later in the staff areas, allowing more employees to share in the festive joy.
For the first time, the National Day reception was relocated to the Grand Pavilion. During this momentous occasion, the SJM Flag Guard also made its inaugural appearance, escorting the national flag to the flag-raising platform in a Chinese-style march. As the national anthem resounded, the flag was ceremoniously hoisted. All SJM staff in attendance stood in solemn reverence, directing their gaze towards the national flag as they offered their heartfelt respect and well-wishes for the country.
Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, remarked, “The Chinese people have been instrumental in shaping the new narrative of our nation through their relentless efforts and determination. China’s ascendancy in economic, technological, and comprehensive national capabilities continues unabated as vividly demonstrated at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Macau enjoys unwavering support from the motherland, and President Xi Jinping holds both deep concern and high aspirations for our Special Administrative Region. Under the robust backing of the central government, the SAR government has effectively led a united community, contributing to Macau’s ongoing economic resurgence. At SJM, we are steadfast in our commitment to innovation within the framework of our cultural heritage. We pursue high quality development and support the government’s ‘1+4’ strategy for appropriate economic diversification. We are focused on enhancing non-gaming elements, capitalising on Macau’s unique positioning as ‘one centre, one platform, one base,’ and seizing the developmental opportunities presented by the Greater Bay Area. Rooted in our core values of ‘Love the Motherland, Love Macau,’ we are collectively committed to the sustainable advancement of the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ framework. We place a high emphasis on talent cultivation to ensure the ‘Patriots Governing Macau’ principle is fully realised, working collaboratively with the people of Macau to construct a prosperous future.”
Ms. Angela Leong, Director of SJM and Chairman of the SWCC, expressed, “For 74 years, the Chinese nation has been fearless through trials and tribulations, creating one great miracle after another. This year, our motherland faces both challenges and opportunities, including rapid global changes, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and economic headwinds. However, the motherland has successfully won the battle against poverty as scheduled and has fully built a moderately prosperous society. It has achieved globally recognised accomplishments in fields such as economy, technology, environment, and society. Just like the towering digital giant in the sky during the opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games which showcased China’s charm and influence, our colleagues uphold the same spirit and envision the future grand plans for both the motherland and Macau. We shall unite our corporate strength and tell good stories of China and Macau. I hope that all colleagues will continue to adhere to the Chinese spirit of “relentless self-improvement” and “pioneering and enterprising,” constantly enhance our own competitiveness, strive forward together with the company, embark on new journeys, and march towards a new future.”
As the ceremony drew to a close, Mr. Timothy Fok, Ms. Daisy Ho, Mr. Vong Keng Hei, Dr. Ambrose So, Ms. Angela Leong, and senior management led a toast to extend wishes for the motherland’s continued prosperity as well as for Macau’s economic development, harmony, and stability.
