
“SJM Cross-Training Development Programme for Gaming Practitioners” assisting Gaming Employees in Career Transition
19 June 2023 - SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) supports the talent development strategy of the Macau SAR Government’s “Building a Talented Macau” initiative, aiming to enhance the diverse professional skills and promote lateral development of gaming employees. SJM, in collaboration with the Labour Affairs Bureau of Macau (“DSAL”), co-organised the “SJM Cross-Training Development Programme for Gaming Practitioners” with the support of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions and the Macao Institute of Tourism Studies. Following the trainings, over 1,000 gaming employees transitioned laterally to non-gaming departments such as catering, marketing, human resources, security, hotel and front office, concierge and retail.
To kick-off the program, SJM held the “SJM Cross-Training Development Programme for Gaming Practitioners” launch ceremony on 19 June 2023 at Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (“Grand Lisboa Palace”). The event was graced by the presence of esteemed government leaders and dignitaries, including Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director of DSAL; Mr. Yang Yi, Deputy Director of the Economic Affairs Department of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, Ms. Ho Sut Heng, President of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions; Dr. Fanny Vong, President of Macao Institute for Tourism Studies and Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM.
During the ceremony, Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, expressed, “We are actively responding to the Macau SAR Government’s strategy of promoting moderate diversification through practical initiatives. We have introduced the ‘SJM Cross-Training Development Programme for Gaming Practitioners’ to facilitate the professional growth of our gaming employees. This program offers systematic certification training courses, enabling them to seamlessly transition into non-gaming roles. By nurturing top-quality talent, we strive to contribute to Macau’s ascension as a ‘World Tourism and Leisure Centre’.” Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director of DSAL, also expressed his gratitude, stating, “We deeply appreciate SJM’s invaluable contributions to talent development in the hospitality industry, which have propelled positive advancements for Macau.”
The “SJM Cross-Training Development Programme for Gaming Practitioners” was a collaborative effort between SJM and DSAL, designed and developed specifically to meet the role requirements and actual needs of the enterprise. The programme’s curriculum encompasses a wide range of topics, including knowledge, skills, safety, and professionalism, with the aim of providing comprehensive and diversified training to enhance the overall capabilities of gaming employees. This training equips gaming practitioners to swiftly adapt to new work environments, acquire additional skills, and establish favourable conditions for their career advancement and employment prospects, thereby maximizing their personal growth opportunities.
