SJM fully supports Vocational Education
22 April 2023 - The Education and Youth Development Bureau (“DSEDJ”) held the vocational and technical education promotion day “Weaving Aspirations, Creating the Future” as part of the 2022 “School and Corporation Collaboration” scheme organized by DSEDJ. The event received full support from SJM Resorts S.A. (“SJM”), which hosted three workshops to offer a combination of fun and educational experiences for young local talents. This initiative aims to allow them to gain practical knowledge in various vocations, jointly cultivate applied skills among local talents and prepare them to contribute to Macau's economic diversification.
The “Weaving Aspirations, Creating the Future” vocational promotion day was held on the 22 April at the Coloane Seac Pai Van Vocational and Technical Education Centre. The event showcased Macau’s vocational education initiatives and program highlights. It was a great success, with students from 12 vocational colleges in attendance. SJM organized three workshops, and deployed staff to share their experiences and conducted demonstrations on mechanical and electrical (“M&E”) maintenance, tea rituals and mixology.
M&E Repair Maintenance
SJM moved its hotel room control system to the exhibition, which includes a central lighting control system, curtain sensor activation and contactless key card entry, among other features. SJM’s professional technicians were present to provide students with hands-on knowledge about M&E, the operations of the room control system, basic installation methods and circuit connections. The professional technicians also offered the students opportunity to try connecting cables themselves.
Tea Ritual Workshop
During the workshop, students were introduced to various Chinese tea leaves by knowledgeable tea experts. The experts also provided detailed explanations of tea rituals and brewing methods, which helped the students deepen their understanding of traditional Chinese culture while engaging their senses through tea appreciation. The students experienced respect, aesthetics, harmony, and appreciation through the tea rituals, and developed friendships with their fellow classmates as they shared their perspectives.
Mixology Workshop
SJM, a reputed leader in Macau's dining landscape, organized a Mixology Workshop where their expert mixologists shared foundational skills in cocktail preparation and oversaw students preparing their own drinks. Students gained hands-on experience creating their own cocktails while having fun and showed great enthusiasm throughout the event.
SJM will continue to support Macau SAR Government’s policies of “Developing Macau through education” and “Cultivating talents for the development of Macau”, and will keep in close collaboration and communication with DSEDJ and other education institutions to promote education through enterprise experiences to jointly develop applied skills among local talents.
Each workshop organized by SJM consisted of three sessions which comprised theories, demonstrations and interactive experiences. Over 100 students completed their learning and experiencing under professional guidance, gained knowledge and understanding of the vocational skills. Teachers, students and parents took home fond memories of the workshops.
