In support of the “Food Hampers” campaign, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) donated MOP300,000 to the Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop. In addition to contribution in funding, the SJM Volunteer Team coordinated more than 20 members to deliver “Food Hampers” to more than 370 low-income households in Macau. They also gave out red packets to bring a smile to the families. Since 2013, SJM has actively supported this initiative for eleven consecutive years and served the community directly with hands-on participation.
On 4 March 2023, Secretary General of SJM Dr. Rui Cunha represented the company in the cheque presentation ceremony. The donation was accepted by Mr. António José de Freitas, President of the Board of Trustees of The Macau Holy House of Mercy, in the company of Ms. Gisela Nunes, Secretary General of The Macau Holy House of Mercy. Mr. Leong Wai Fong, Vice President and Secretary General of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions, and Mr. Chan Ka Leong, President of the Board of Directors of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau.
Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, expressed, ‘SJM is rooted in Macau and cares deeply for the society. We have a firm conviction to help vulnerable groups through teamwork and our inherent corporate strengths. We are most delighted to work with the Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop in its “Food Hamper” initiative to care for the disadvantaged families. Together, we can generate more mileage from our charitable efforts and further strengthen social harmony and stability in our community.’
Ms. Angela Leong, Director of SJM and Chairman of the Staff Welfare Consultative Committee, remarked, ‘SJM believes in spreading kindness and earnestly fulfills its social responsibilities. As head of the volunteer team, I am immensely grateful towards the enthusiasm extended by our staff and their unwavering support in various social welfare activities. The “Food Hamper” event is yet another opportunity to carry forward SJM’s spirit “From the society, for the society”, which enables us to do our part in caring for the underprivileged population in the city.’
The SJM Volunteer Team was established in 2015 as a platform to engage and empower employees to contribute, to care for, and to serve the community. It regularly organizes a myriad of activities, such as volunteering skills, first aid knowledge, and parent-children bonding activities etc., so that members can achieve personal growth and enjoy teamwork, as well as extend care and support to underprivileged groups in the local community.
