SJM hosts a new edition of “Tell China Stories” Workshop
SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) has been hosting a series of parent-children events for its staff and families, with the objective of enhancing “National Education” among the generations. The series focuses on showcasing China and Macau’s advancements, through which the “Love the Motherland and Love Macau” spirit can be popularised. As part of this initiative organised by the SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee, a new edition of “Tell China’s Stories” workshop was held at Kam Pek Community Centre on 25 February 2023, which was popularly attended by 25 families.
Led by Mr. Chan Cheuk Wah, lecturer from the City University of Macau, Faculty of International Tourism and Management, the workshop shared the life stories of two prominent figures who were instrumental to Macau’s development- Dr. Stanley Ho and Mr. Henry Fok Ying-Tung. The two patriotic businessmen were highly passionate about the development of the motherland, and made every effort to promote the revitalisation of the nation through science and education, cultural preservation, charitable giving, tourism growth, economic development, and the building of substantial infrastructure in Hong Kong, Macao, and China. At the heart of SJM’s corporate social responsibility efforts is Dr. Stanley Ho’s philosophy “From the society, For the society”, which became a guiding force deeply rooted in every staff member. SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee seeks to instill in its workers a proper understanding of patriotism and to strengthen a sense of belonging to the Chinese nation among the younger generation by teaching them about the accomplishments of great patriots. As part of the event, families were treated to a fun-filled traditional Chinese craft experience whereby instructors demonstrated the making of fish lanterns, a national intangible cultural heritage. Parents and their children enjoyed quality time together as they collaborated on the project.
Director of SJM and Chairman of the SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee, Ms. Angela Leong, expressed her gratitude for the support from the SJM staff and their children in this company event, and emphasised the meaningfulness of quality family time while enhancing their knowledge of the motherland. The Staff Welfare Consultative Committee will continue to produce and promote more staff activities, to continue creating more initiatives to spread the “Love the Motherland and Love Macau” spirit, promote inclusion and loyalty, and contribute to the steady development of China and Macau.
