
SJM as co-organiser of 9th International Forum on Clean Energy & Net-zero Carbon Island
The 9th International Forum on Clean Energy & Net-zero Carbon Island opened in Hengqin on 18 December 2022 at the conference center of Chimelong Hengqin Bay Hotel at Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone. The theme of this year’s Forum was “Creating a New Zero-carbon Movement with a Carbon-neutral Blueprint”. Nearly 200 leaders in related fields from various countries and regions, United Nations agencies, heads of energy and power departments of local and foreign governments, ambassadors in China, representatives from industry associations, enterprises, universities and research institutions attended the Forum or via video link, jointly creating a new zero-carbon movement with a carbon-neutral blueprint.
Under the guidance of China Economic and Social Council, the Forum was co-hosted by the International Forum for Clean Energy (Macau), Greater Bay Area National Technological Innovation Center and State Power Investment Cooperation Limited, and co-organized by Guangdong-Macao In-Deep Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and SJM Resorts, S.A. The Forum also had the support from various entities including Macao Foundation, Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Macao Environmental Protection Bureau, the Financial Development Bureau of Guangdong-Macao In-Deep Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, International Digital Economy Academy, the Hydrogen Energy Special Committee of CERS, Technology Center of the China Electricity Council, China Technology Exchange and others.
Mr. Edmund Ho, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, sent a congratulatory letter to the Forum. He believed that the Forum with its rich experience could make full use of the advantages under the “One Country, Two Systems” to better promote the role of green finance in low-carbon transformation aligning with the nation’s dual carbon goals, and to inject new momentum into the economic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and Macao, jointly supporting green, low-carbon and sustainable development.
The main forum was held under the theme of “China’s Goals of Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality – Abiding by the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals”, whilst the six sub-forms covered the topics of energy-technology innovation, roadshows of innovative programs, tech innovation funds cooperation, global carbon trading and finance, development of hydrogen energy industry, and green infrastructure projects.
Dr. Ambrose So, Director-General of the International Forum on Clean Energy (Macau) said in his speech, with the support of the CPPCC National Committee and the Macao SAR Government, the Forum started its journey of promoting green and low-carbon energy transformation ten years ago, and will continue to serve as an exchange and cooperation platform for “production, learning, research, application and investment” in the years to come, further contributing to making the Earth a beautiful home with green mountains, clean water and fresh air.
The Forum also launched the 2022 Clean Energy Blue Book, sponsored by the Macao Foundation, which is the twelfth edition of the Blue Book series. In addition, SPIC China Power International Holding Limited signed cooperation agreements with Macao Productivity and Technology Transfer Center and Macau Millennium College on promoting integration between science and education, and the co-construction of Hengqin Zero-carbon Institute.
