SJM promotes local creativity Creates sustainable mooncake gift sets with Macau Design Award winner
SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) joined hands with award-winning designer Au Chon Hin, winner of the “SJM New Talent Award” at the Macau Design Awards 2021 and his team at Untitled Macao, to create two exclusive and beautifully presented mooncake gift boxes for the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (“Grand Lisboa Palace”) and Grand Lisboa Hotel. These bespoke designs encompass reusability and sustainability while highlighting the best of Macau’s creative talent.
By merging his signature style with sustainable design, Au and his team conceived two contemporary and practical gift boxes that can be repurposed and reused for any occasion. The Grand Lisboa Palace's “Secret Garden under the Moon” set draws inspiration from the resort’s European-styled architecture and gardens, depicted with elegant graphics under a tranquil full moon. Another design for Grand Lisboa Hotel titled “Treasure Box of the Moon” features goldfishes at the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant “The 8”. Adorned with ripples and goldfishes, the designer applied mosaic effect to give the optical illusion of lifelike goldfishes swimming towards the reflection of a full moon.
SJM targets to promote a green and environmentally friendly Mid-Autumn by infusing ecological designs into its mooncake sets. Both gift boxes are styled as picnic hampers for easy carry and can be reused all year round. In addition, SJM also partnered with Chazence to create sustainable cutlery to pair with the gift sets. In place of plastic, Chazence pioneered the use of recycled tea leaves to produce fully biodegradable cutlery with its patented technology. These earth-friendly gift boxes are bound to entice friends, family, and acquaintances into living a more conscious life.
Ms Daisy Ho, Chairman of the Board of Directors, remarked, “As we celebrate Mid-Autumn, we have also taken the opportunity to partner with local SMEs to promote creativity and environmental awareness. As we contribute to Macau’s economic diversification, we will continue to enhance collaboration with local artists and the creative cultural industry to showcase their talents and pave way for their sustainable growth.”
