Committed to upholding the motto of “From society to society” and helping the underprivileged through acts of kindness, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) supported the “Food Basket” program organised by the Macau Holy House of Mercy Welfare Shop for the 10th consecutive year. On 22 March 2022, Managing Director of SJM and Chairman of the SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee, Ms. Angela Leong, on behalf of the company presented a donation of MOP300,000 to the Macau Holy House of Mercy in contribution to its operational funds for the initiative. In addition, over 30 volunteers from SJM assisted in the orderly distribution of the food baskets to families in need, following good practice of pandemic control.
A cheque presentation ceremony was hosted on the morning of 22 March 2022, with Ms. Angela Leong presenting the MOP300,000 donation to Mr. António José de Freitas, President of the Board of Trustees of The Macau Holy House of Mercy. Other participants included Ms. Gisela Nunes, Secretary General of The Macau Holy House of Mercy, Ms. Janet Leong, Director of the Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind, Ms. Ng Sio Lai, President of the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau and Mr. Sam Iat Kong, Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions.
SJM Volunteer team enthusiastically participated in the campaign on 22 and 29 March 2022, handing out food baskets and SJM red packets to 370 low-income families and those referred by the Service Centre of Associação dos Familiares Encarregados dos Deficientes Mentais de Macau.
Ms. Angela Leong highly commended the guiding principles of The Macau Holy House of Mercy and its persistence in organising the Food Basket campaign undeterred by the pandemic. The campaign fully reflected the kindness and generosity intrinsic to the Macau community. She expressed that the pace at which the economy is recovering means it is now more important than ever to care for the underprivileged and those disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Mr. António José de Freitas expressed his gratitude towards SJM for its continuous support over the past decade, and recognized its corporate social responsibility efforts. Volunteers who participated were galvanized at the opportunity to directly serve the community and feel engaged again since the pandemic. They exhibited exceptional teamwork and took joy in the great cause.
