SJM hosts “Tell China’s Stories” workshop for children of staff
Since 2019, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) has been hosting a series of parent-children events for its staff and families, with the objective of enhancing patriotic education across the generations. The series focuses on showcasing China’s illustrious achievements on various fronts, reinforces the “Love the Motherland and Love Macau” spirit, and instills sense of responsibility to give back and contribute to the building of a stronger nation. The series, organized by the SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee (“SWCC”), includes workshops such as “Who’s Who in China” and “Tell China’s Stories”.
This year’s first “Tell China’s Stories” workshop was held on 3 May 2022 at Jai Alai Buffet, led by Mr. Chan Cheuk Wah, lecturer from the Faculty of International Tourism and Management of the City University of Macau. Mr. Chan shared the life story of Professor Zhong Nanshan, a national hero who has marshaled the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and told of his journey in pursuing medicine as inspired by his parents. The workshop also gave a riveting account of China’s extraordinary efforts in combating the health crisis, putting the lives of its people as first priority. Two instructors were invited to engage families in a fun-filled traditional Chinese craft project, featuring a lucky charm customarily kept by children in Northern China.
Gracing the event, Managing Director of SJM and Chairman of SWCC, Ms. Angela Leong, expressed that families are important cornerstones of the society. As such, SJM is a family-friendly employer which prioritizes healthy work-life balance and encourages staff to closely communicate with their children. It will continue to host a myriad of parent-children educational events to enrich next generation’s understanding of China’s traditions and cultural heritage, as well as pass on the “Love the Motherland and Love Macau” spirit.
