In celebration of the 100^th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (“CPC”), the 72^nd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the 22^nd anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) and Associação de Cultura e Arte Chinesa de Macau (Macau Chinese Culture and Arts Association) jointly brought to the public an exhibition of artworks by retired and incumbent staff members attending the Chinese calligraphy and painting class organised by SJM. The exhibition also comprised artworks by the students’ tutors. Spanning eight days from 8 to 15 December 2021 at the Kam Pek Community Centre in Macau, the exhibition showcased around 80 multi-dimensional art pieces by four teachers and over 20 staff members of SJM from different age groups. The exhibition is a testament to SJM’s support to the development of arts and culture in Macau, as well as to the promotion of patriotic education amongst staff members. Through the exhibition and the practice of Chinese calligraphy and painting, SJM hopes that staff members can broaden their horizon on arts and culture, and enrich their cultural lives.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR Mr. Wan Su Cheng, Managing Director of SJM and Chairman of the SJM Staff Welfare Consultative Committee Ms. Angela Leong, Secretary-General of SJM Dr. Rui Cunha, Manager of Cultural-Recreational and Social Services Department of SJM cum Committee Chairman of Associação de Cultura e Arte Chinesa de Macau Mr. Fok Chi Chiu, and Vice President of the Executive Committee of Macao Federation of Trade Unions Mr. Sam Iat Kuong, and other guests.

Mr. Fok Chi Chiu said in the opening speech that this first exhibition by SJM’s staff members signified the company’s efforts in promoting Chinese culture in Macau, the essence of the Chinese nation. He hoped that the exhibition will foster cultural exchange, and enable colleagues to broaden horizons and improve their artistic skills.

Following the opening ceremony, Dr. Rui Cunha presented graduation certificates to the students who completed SJM’s first Chinese calligraphy and painting class. Students are encouraged to learn hard and enjoy arts. It is hoped that students could foster their inner beauty through exploring and learning from Chinese traditional calligraphy and painting from multi-dimensional perspectives.
