SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) organised the “Gaming Crime Prevention Workshop” with Macau Judiciary Police on 10 November 2021, to raise the awareness of front-line staff members on crime prevention, and to prevent crimes from happening within casinos and hotels, and with the joint efforts of the police and public to maintain a healthy gaming environment. The workshop was held in compliance with the government’s anti-pandemic measures. All participants were required to present a green “health code”, wear masks and keep social distance.

The Judiciary Police sent a team of 19 members to join the workshop at Grand Lisboa Hotel. The workshop was attended by 60 staff members from SJM, spanning the departments of security, surveillance, marketing, finance, information technology, anti-money laundering, hospitality, food and beverage, and casino operation.

The workshop covered topics on procedures on reporting crimes, the latest trends of gaming-related crimes, and other security issues generated by the illegal exchange of currencies. Aided by videos and case studies, the Judiciary Police representatives shared with the participants information on internet crimes, domestic violence, protection of traces and evidence at crime scenes, as well as legal knowledge on counterfeit currency and money laundering. SJM staff members were divided into groups for joint discussions with the Judiciary Police on situations they encountered at work and daily lives. They were also taught with methods of self-protection. Staff members were also encouraged to share the knowledge acquired at the workshop with their families and friends, to promote the healthy development of both gaming industry and society.

Mr. Leong Kin Wai, representative of the Judiciary Police, said that they would endeavour to fight and prevent gaming-related crimes, and keep close communication and cooperation with the gaming industry. The Judiciary Police will continue to provide trainings with focus on the latest criminal activities to front-line gaming staff, hoping to combine the concerted efforts of the police and the public to combat crimes.
