In celebration of the 100^th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 22^nd anniversary of the establishment of the Macau SAR, the SJM Cup – 9^th Macau Wushu Festival and Macau Martial Arts Competition, title-sponsored by SJM Resorts, S.A., took place from 27 to 30 July 2021 at University of Macau. In addition to wushu competitions such as Wushu Taolu, Wushu Sanda, Jeet Kune Do, Short Weapon Fighting, Health Qigong and Taekwondo, the event also comprised a series of activities including forums and discussions attended by wushu masters from the Mainland. The event provided a platform for wushu masters to exchange dialogues and share experiences.

The opening ceremony was held on 27 July, attended by Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR Mr. Wan Su Cheng, Chairman of Macau Chinese National Traditional Sports Association Dr. Ambrose So, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM Resorts, S.A. Ms. Daisy Ho and member of the Legislative Assembly of Macau Ms. Angela Leong.

Dr. Ambrose So, Chairman of Macau Chinese National Traditional Sports Association cum Chairman of the Organising Committee of the 9^th Macau Wushu Festival and Macau Martial Arts Competition, said, “Wushu, which carries a long history of cultural essence, is one of the important elements that forms Chinese culture. Wushu, which receives a wide spectrum of audiences, is a valuable cultural heritage accumulated and enriched by the Chinese people through ceaseless practices. It reflects the spirit and the wisdom of the nation. ‘Develop your virtue before you practise martial arts’ is the tradition of wushu. As influenced by traditional cultural values such as humanity and righteousness, rites and music, the virtue of wushu illustrates the thinking of ‘patriotism, trustworthiness, righteous, and courteous’. Through the practice of wushu, the Chinese nation demonstrates the dedication for self-improvement.” He continued, “As wushu is easily accepted by audiences from overseas, we aim to promote the spirit of cohesion and creativity, and tell the world China’s stories well.”

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Ambrose So, on behalf of Macau Chinese National Traditional Sports Association, presented a souvenir to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM Ms. Daisy Ho in appreciation of SJM’s continuous support to the traditional Chinese wushu and to the promotion of patriotism.
