SJM donates to Macau charities amidst the pandemic
With deep roots in Macau, Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”) has been actively participating in charity and community works, dedicated to promoting Dr. Stanley Ho’s principle of “from society to society”. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, SJM has adopted various anti-epidemic measures strictly adhering to the guidelines of Macau Government, and also enhanced its community engagement to rejuvenate economic recovery and help the disadvantaged.
SJM continued its support to Macau’s charities and NGOs amidst the pandemic by donating MOP600,000 to Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society and MOP200,000 each to Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association, Obra das Mães, Macau Association of the Hearing Impaired, Macau Social Services Centre and Yat On Responsible Gambling Counselling Centre. A cheque presentation ceremony was held at Jai Alai Hotel on 3 May 2021. Ms. Angela Leong, Managing Director and Chairman of the Staff Welfare Consultative Committee of SJM directed the donations to the representatives of the charities.
Ms. Angela Leong said in her speech that giving back to society is SJM’s core value. The SJM Charity Auction and Dinner has been a traditional event of SJM for over ten years, with all proceeds raised from the charity auction donated to Macau’s charities and NGOs. Though the event was suspended in 2020 under the pandemic, in response to the economic and social needs, particularly to those living in poverty, SJM decided to continue its donations this year. Adhering to Dr. Stanley Ho’s philosophy of giving back to society, SJM stands in solidarity with the community in overcoming the challenges under the pandemic.
